The Abigail Project

Transitional Living Facility

The primary goal of the Abigail Project is to provide a safe, nurturing environment that promotes healing and self-sufficiency for victims of domestic violence. In addition to building the self-esteem of both the victims and their children to increase their sense of self-worth, skill-building is a significant component of the program in that the educational and vocational training provided will enable clients to ultimately contribute productively to society as self-assured, self-sufficient citizens.

The Abigail Project is an unparalleled partnership between IMPACT Community Development Corporation (IMPACT CDC), the Jersey Battered Women's Services, Inc. and Christ Church, an active multi-cultural congregation that will provide a large volunteer base for committed part time positions.

The Abigail Project will serve female victims and children of domestic violence throughout Northern New Jersey. The facility will serve eleven multi-cultural families, a total of up to 20 individuals (mothers and children), for 18 to 24 months. Typical barriers faced by victims of domestic violence are compounded by services that are rarely targeted to address differences in cultural heritage, language, educational level and/or immigration status, making it difficult to access mainstream services.
