Community Development

IMPACT Community Development Corporation (IMPACT CDC), established in 2001 as an outgrowth of Christ Church, (Learn more) has rapidly emerged to the forefront in addressing a broad range of complex factors affecting economically distressed youth, families and communities. As a faith-based, non-profit organization we are committed to engaging in strategic business partnerships (Learn more), enhancing educational opportunities for youth (Learn more), and building healthy and sustainable communities through education, resource development, and advocacy.

  • To fully engage youth in the planning and implementation of our $1.2 million federally funded "Winners Wait" Abstinence Program designed to educate youth on the prevention of at-risk behaviors. This program is currently being presented to middle school and high school youth ages 12-18 in two school districts (Learn more).
  • To develop a Youth Leadership Institute designed to provide leadership skills training for youth including: effective communication and public speaking, self-esteem building, mentorship skills, academic tutorial and standardized test preparation and assistance with college and scholarship research. This program was initiated in June, 2006 and includes components from the nationally acclaimed Points of Light Leadership Institute and the award winning New Jersey Orators, Inc. (Learn more).
  • To establish a transitional living facility for women and children victims of domestic violence that will provide continuum of care from 18-24 months. The services provided will include: personal and family development, educational and vocational training, advocacy, referrals and linkages that are designed to prepare residents to productively re-enter society. Property has been located and the program hopes to open its doors early in 2007 (Learn more).
  • To provide affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income families.
  • To provide programs that are responsive to the aspirations and needs of senior citizen residents of Montclair and throughout Essex County.

Some of IMPACT CDC's strategies include identifying and developing new programs and services for youth, women, and active senior populations using proven community assessment and data collection tools and by partnering with neighborhood service providers who offer programs to them.
